What shall we work on together?
Some places we could start:
Strategy & Planning
Define a clear path from where your products are now, to where you’d like them to be. Approaches like usability audits and user interviews can define current pain points clearly. Aligning on product vision and goals sets the direction. And UX roadmaps, implementation plans, and prioritization guidance can cue things up for implementation.
Design Operations
Get your design practice ticking over smoothly.
For companies whose designers are busy with project work, I can help streamline software and communication processes so that designers and engineers can have efficient systems constructed to support them while they stay heads-down.
For companies that don’t have fulltime UX staff, I can provide long-term fractional design support for teams. Or I can work with Management and Recruiting to define what UX skills the products need, and assist with writing job descriptions for future hires.
Sales Enablement Support
B2B SaaS products are usually much-loved by their daily power-users. And product roadmaps tend (as they should!) to focus on these users’ needs. But power-users and purchasing decision-makers are seldom the same people.
It can be difficult to convey the value of detail-focused, data-dense products to executives or procurement offices. Adding summary views, dashboards, or other high-level pages can articulate value and help products stand above the competition. As a designer used to working with both highly specialized users and high-level decision-makers, I can make sure that summary-level designs still accurately reflect the nuances of your data while speaking to organizational priorities.
UI Modernization
Stay current, while retaining nuance and complex workflows. We can work together to identify the goals for the product’s look and feel. And then do a couple of rounds of design feedback and revisions to get everything dialed in. I can provide Implementation guidance for the new look – as light as updating some CSS for an existing component library, or as detailed as a whole new Design Systems.
Product Design for New Greenfield Products
Move through the 0-1 stages of creating a brand new product, with an experienced designer. I can conduct user research, work with SMEs, PMs, or BAs to define product needs, and create clarity and consensus throughout the design process with low-fidelity iterative mock-ups to show and test the team’s ideas. Once we finalize, we can define the UX deliverables that best fit the project and team.
Navigation Updates
Help your users navigate easily – within one product, or across a suite of products and websites. I can audit navigation menus and page structures, and update navigation structures/strategies to make it as intuitive as possible for users to find what they need.
Pricing
I offer a range of pricing and packages, to fit the scope of our work together:
Introductory 1-hour Video Meeting – Free
After you fill out the interest form I’ll reach out to schedule an introductory meeting. Well go over what types of support your products need, and which of the pricing strategies below might be the best fit.
Hourly and Project-Based Consulting
For strategic support, design ops, meeting-focused support, and the project definition/scoping phase of starting to work together, I charge a base rate of $100/hour. I make a sliding scale rate available for pre-seed startups who need some UX planning to help get going.
I charge a by-project rate for design deliverables, clickable prototypes, design systems, and similar assets. Project costs are calculated using a tool similar to Andreas Johanson’s estimator with cost based on complexity, number of design iterations, and a number of other factors that we’ll chat through as we plan.
On-Call Retainer
If you need an experienced UXer in-house but don’t have the scale or funds for a fulltime hire, I sometimes have availability for long-term fractional work, where I am available for a set number of hours each month, for a monthly fee. Retainer spots require an initial 2-month commitment, and are then billed monthly. Larger projects that arise in the course of on-call availability are billed at project rate. Please reach out if you’d like to check whether I currently have retainer spots available.
